Spalted Beech Bowl - £100
Spalted Beech Bowl - £100

Well marked large spalted Beech bowl seen in side and from above view sourced from Wisley RHS Garden.
Decorative reinforcing can be seen on the left side view

Spalting is a term used to describe the markings left after dead wood has become colonised by two main fungi. It is part of the process which ends with total rotting. The secret is to stop the process when the markings are at their best and the wood is still fairly hard.

All my products are boiled to kill the fungi and to soften the lignin fibres which reduces splitting of the wood as it dries. Lastly they are coated with Danish oil for long wear, hardening and polishing of the surface.

Suitable for general decorative use. Can also be used for sweets and dry items such as nuts. Unsuitable for salads or culinary purposes. Can be re-polished with wax.

Price includes UK postage and packing
