The spalted marks are from fungi growing on dead or fallen trees and travelling up the wood cells from the ends, leaving a most attractive pattern. The process takes 2 to 3 years to reach the ideal stage to cut & season the timber. The wood is boiled and kiln dried during the process of making the bowl to ensure fungi spores are inactive.
Suitable for general decorative use. Can also be used for sweets and dry items. Unsuitable for salads or culinary purposes.
